What is Hydrazine Hydrate
Hydrazine Hydrate is one of the fuming, oily liquids, having no color. In terms of odor, it has similarity to ammonia. One can dissolve it in alcohol and water. However, in ethyl ether and chloroform, this Hydrazine Hydrate is insoluble.
Hydrazine Hydrate is used in fungicides and herbicides manufacturing, it is highly valuable ingredient. Other sectors, where we have found its use, include pharmaceuticals (tuberculosis drugs) and tranquilizers). At present, plastic industries also rely on Hydrazine Hydrate for creating the polymerization initiators and various blowing components.
The strength of Hydrazine Solution depends on the percentage of Hydrazine in the solution. The mixture of Hydrazine and Water together forms monohydrate – N2H4.H20. It occurs due to the bonding of hydrogen. Therefore, it can be said that the percentage of Hydrazine in a solution is equivalent to the percentage of Hydrazine Monohydrate. The relationship between the two depends on their molecular weights.
The molecular weight of Hydrazine us 32 and that of Monohydrate is 50. The ratio between the two depending on their weights is 32/50 or 0 .64. Monohydrate in it’s 100% form contains 32/50 or 64% of Hydrazine. This means that a solution by weight of 100% of Hydrazine Hydrate can be used interchangeably with 64% Hydrazine.

INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS
Agriculture.
Today’s agriculture needs crop protection agents that can help to take care of the pests, weeds, insects and other micro-organisms. Hydrazine is present in the best crop protection chemicals. This provides the world with food that is healthy. Hydrazine has the power to enter reactions and take care of active compounds.
Chemical Blowing Agents.
CBAs also called Foaming Agents are used in plastic processes. The benefits of this includes reduction in polymer density, saving material costs, improvement in electrical as well as insulative properties and the increase in the ratio of strength to weight. Products like food container, core pipe, vinyl sheets, furniture, etc uses foamed plastic. CBA is basically used for the processing of medium temperature polymer. Polystyrene, polypropylene, polyethylene, PVC and ABS uses azodicarbonamide.
Benzene and Toluenesulfonylhydrazide are also CBAs which are used for lower temperature application. Oxybis Benzenesulfonyl Hydrazide, although made with Hydrazine requires high temperature to decompose.
Water Treatment.
By removing the cause of corrossion in boilers with the use of Hydrazine products a lot of money and time can be saved. The product we suggest can protect the boiler and can be used for closed circulating hot water heating systems.
Other Applications.
Urethanes.
In order to crosslink the polymers Hydrazine is mixed with urethane solutions. Hydrazine is both nucleophilic and bi-functioal. This causes rapid reaction with isocyanates and acrylates. Crosslink helps to improve the durability and strength of the plastics.
Lubricants.
Lubricant Additives mostly use dimercaptothiadiazole which is a Hydrazine based sulfur compound.
Antioxidants.
Hydrazine Moiety works as a reducing agent and is found in antioxidants and metal deactivator compounds.
Reducing Agents.
Hydrazine is used in the production of mirrors, recovery of precious metals and reduction of noble metals because it is powerful and acts rapidly as a reducing agent. No byproducts are left behind from the reaction of Hydrazine.
Miscellaneous
Hydrazine is needed in the production of flame retardants, iodine compounds and purification of muriatic acid.
